Describe the sound without reaching the source
Words such as clicking, humming, scraping or rattling can be useful if they reflect what you actually hear. Note when it occurs during ordinary use and whether it stops on its own. An existing recording can help preserve an intermittent sound.
Do not reach behind a built-in unit or remove a cover to locate it. The apparent direction of a sound is not enough to identify a fan, compressor or mounting issue.
Keep installation and temperature history together
Tell us if the refrigerator was recently installed, if cabinetry was changed or if an object nearby could be touching the exterior. Remove only loose household objects that are safe to move. Leave mounting hardware and permanent panels as they are.
Identify the affected compartment if cooling also changed, and keep any alert or displayed reading. A sound complaint without a temperature change should be described that way, too.
Prepare for a visit at your address
Call to check availability for your Kips Bay address, with the model if accessible and building entry instructions. Clear the approach and agree who can explain the symptom and approve work. Ask about diagnostic charges before booking.
If refrigeration is unreliable, make appropriate alternative storage arrangements for temperature-sensitive contents while service is being organized.
A FEW HELPFUL ANSWERS
Before your service visit
Can a recording prove which part is noisy?
No. It can capture the pattern, but the appliance and installation still need assessment. Record only from a safe position during ordinary operation.
Should I level or shift the refrigerator to stop vibration?
Leave a built-in appliance and its mounting hardware in place. Describe the vibration and any recent installation work before making adjustments.
